Carlton 81066

The Old Town canoe with serial number 81066 is an 18 foot long, GS (Guide Special or utility) grade, Guide Special model that appears to have shipped as a Carleton. This had red western cedar planking, open spruce rails, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between October and December, 1923. The original exterior paint color was maroon. It shipped on February 22nd, 1924 to Memphis, Tennessee. A scan of this build record is attached below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The sponson line appears to be blank but it is not unusual for a light colored stamp to have gotten lost in the black and white scan. Let me know if you have any other questions.
