Little victories--found the SN, 130667

Congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 130667 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, square stern model with open mahogany gunwales, a 48 inch mahogany deck, mahogany seats, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between October, 1940 and February, 1941. The original exterior paint colors were dark green with T. (tropical) green on the bottom. It shipped on September, 24th, 1941 to Lake Placid, New York. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. thanks Benson, much appreciated. When the sun came back out I caught just a glimpse of the length numbers, sure enough after stripping a bit more paint there was the "16" ever so faintly there. pics of the full number below.
Do folks ever try to re-stamp the numbers in the stem when restoring? it seems like these are so hard to see now, in the future they may be impossible to make out. And if people do that, what tool or tools to they use? just curious.

I haven't heard of anyone trying to re-stamp a serial number over an old number. Some people have found old punch sets with similar numbers but it might be a challenge to find the exact same font for each digit. Good luck,

I’ve re-stamped. Font slightly different than original, but the serial number is preserved.
