THE ART OF THE CANOE BUILDER Two extraordinary photos of canoes from the Northwoods Canoe Co. by Rollin Thurlow and associates. On the left is a 1946 OT Guide model with Interlux “Dark Blue” paint. The bright finish on the dark hull combined with the even light from an overcast day resulted in the hull reflecting the leaves and essentially disappearing! On the right is a reproduction of a 1908 B.N. Morris, Model A, Type #1 with the complicated Old Town Design #22 graphics along the stems and rails. While the repeating design of the triangles looks fairly basic, it is really very difficult to execute. It takes a full day just to lay out and tape off the design before it can be painted, then another day to finish off the black outline detailing. #wcha #canoe #woodencanoeheritageassociation #woodencanoe #northwoodscanoe #atkinsonmaine
